Cyclocross Community, Chatter, and Culture (whatever that is)

Greetings,

I'm new to 'Cross racing this season but, far from new to racing.
I put together a bike from parts I had around for this season. After some previous
cyclocross races I'm totally hooked and considering headed to NJ for this weekends UCI race.
Do UCI rules apply to a Cat. IV race?? If so, would there be any problem with this rig?

see attached.

It is a mtn frame but, has drop bars. However, it does use 26" wheels
running 38mm (1.5") and 47mm (1.85") tires.

I thought I heard something about no mtn bikes at UCI races but, not sure
if it pertains to bikes with flat bars, suspension and disc brakes (which this has none of)

TIA,
Mark

Hey mark,

you'll be fine if you don't enter any category with UCI points at stake, or a title race at nats. As a 4, you're fine. You can ride pretty much anything except with bar ends or a fixed gear.

if you do move up to a UCI category, congrats! in that case the limiting factor on that bike would be your tire width, as 35mm is the max. I do not believe the UCI has banned 26' wheels, yet. UCI.CH has all the rules, and usa cycling's website should tell you too.

have a blast! not sure if you can get your shoulder in that triangle, but if you can, maybe take the bottle cage off. I'd take it off the rear too just in case you find your leg swinging back there on a funny mount/dismount.

report back on your race! maybe you'll win something.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the prompt response. Glad to hear as a IV I'll be ok with this rig.
I'll move up once I podium a few times. Was close a few weeks ago but not quite.
I really feel the bike isn't a limiting factor. It's learning how to produce more power at
183BPM!! ;-)

The front triangle is much to small to shoulder but, with all that seat post sticking out, it's really easy
to hook the saddle on my shoulder and grab the downtube.

Thanks again,
Mark
