The Elusive Remount

In 'cross it is the elusive remount that I lack the most skill in.  My limit is primarily due flexibility/strength to get my inner thigh on saddle while walking/jogging.  So I launch my self a bit to…Continue

Clincher Rec's?

Newb to CX and just moved to NH.  I am riding a Crux EVO from last year with OEM 700cx38 Trigger Sports (I also have a set of Tracer Pros 700x33c that my old LBS recommended for my hybrid) and as the…Continue

Hybrid to CX Upgrade

I am looking for a new bike after riding my hybrid (Specialized Sirrus) for just over 2-years.  I've thought about what kind of riding I want to do and since I was introduced to CX 2-weeks ago, I am…Continue

"Will do.  I talked to one of my LBS and a guy there rode it last year on road tires.  He said a couple of the climbs in the beginning are brutal. This will be my longest ride and first metric century."

"That ride has been on my radar for a couple of years and hope to do it next year. It sounds like a blast.  On Sunday after a mtn bike ride a guy was talking about the Raid, trying to get my brother to do it (he lives minutes away from it). It…"

Tire Rec for RAID

Planning on a 100 km ride (http://raidrockingham.com) in about a week. The conditions include 25 mi packed gravel and 2 CAT 5 climbs.  I have a '14 CRUX.  This is my first 100k ride.  Tires in my possession are 40c MSO, 38c Trigger Sports, 33c Spec Tracer Pro, 33c PDX and a Spec Hybrid tire that is slick and maybe 32c (on my city bike).  I am leaning toward the Tracer Pros or the Triggers with the file tread.Just hoping to finish in one piece..as this may…See More

"Awesome.  Thanks much.  I work on mobility almost every day focusing on hips, shoulder and back. As the weather warms I intend to make this my technical focus for the summer.  I am lucky to have a local MTB trail near my house to ride…"

"Well, you have about 5 months to work on your flexibility before you really need to work on remount training!  Without being overly glib, it really might be as simple as spending 15-20 minutes, 3x a week on stretching. I'm not terribly…"

The Elusive Remount

In 'cross it is the elusive remount that I lack the most skill in.  My limit is primarily due flexibility/strength to get my inner thigh on saddle while walking/jogging.  So I launch my self a bit to try to jump on the seat...typically with mixed results and levels of self-induce pain.Does anyone have any suggestions on improving this skill? It seems critical AND valuable in other riding (Fatbike race this past weekend looked a lot like a snow 'cross course)THANKS!!!!See More

"Good review. I weigh 225#. I've run Trigger Sports 38c's down to 30’ish psi and lower with no problems except for maybe bottoming out over roots. Tracer Pro 33’s I need at 40 or a little more to avoid pinch flats. PDX' 33s…"

"Great...I have 3 LBS's and I'll bet the one that is really into cross will have a different take.  I"m going stop by there today if I have time to grab 3 tubes."

"Great advice, Kris. While I shied away from latex initially, your observations are spot on. Currently running that set up (with a bit of sealant) in a PDX front/ Slant Six rear combo and can lower the pressure to where I can really rail corners.…"

Kris Fleming replied to Timmy R's discussion Clincher Rec's?
"Timmy, your LBS guy doesn't understand the different properties latex brings to the table then.  It does take a bit more care and handling during install but, nothing crazy.  Latex is typically what is used inside tubulars (every high…"

J.D. Kimple replied to Timmy R's discussion Clincher Rec's?
"Latex tube recommendation was right on. Also, you can remove the valve core and add about an ounce or two of sealant (such as Stan's, CaffeLatex, etc.) This way you could pinch the tube and still keep riding, but if the pinch is a bigger tear…"
