"JBH, great question. I wondered that for a while. The carbon bead version has horizontal lines underneath the tread, going width-wise across the tire. Small, but visible and you can feel them. The older tires do not. That's my own…"

JBH replied to Matt Haughey's discussion Anyone tried the new carbon-bead Hutchinson tubeless Bulldog tires?
"I'm a bit late to the tubeless CX tire game. I just picked up a pair of Shimano Ultegra Tubeless wheels with one worn out Bulldog 34c silver tread carbon bead tubeless tire, and the other Bulldog with a 2mm cut (Stan’s sealant…"

Matt Haughey replied to J.D. Kimple's discussion Apex rear der with Rival group?
"I have a cross bike with a mostly Force group (Rival crankset since that's the only one they make in 180mm), and I replaced the rear Force with an Apex this year, so I could toss a 32t cog on my all around wheels for climbing steep gravel roads…"

Matt Haughey replied to Todd Stevenson's discussion Need Suggestions: Looking for XL Cross Frameset
"I bought one of the Wicks/Trebon frames off eBay without knowing it was one of their 2008 team models (some eBay clearing house sold it for $150 to me). It was great for a full season and built up really light, though the top tube was slightly too…"

Matt Haughey replied to Mark Hatten's discussion CX Bike Sizing
"I'm about 6'3" and have a similar inseam. My BB-to-seat height is around 842mm, and I found my first road bike and my first cx bike just weren't big enough (their frames were 61 and 60cm respectively). I found a four inch drop…"

Dave Flanary replied to Matt Haughey's discussion Anyone tried the new carbon-bead Hutchinson tubeless Bulldog tires?
"I just installed some new carbon Bullodgs last nite. They may fit a little tighter than the old ones, but weren't a problem on my Easton EA90SLX rims. Given the tighter fit, lower pressures should be doable. I'll find out soon!"

"Finally got out and rode on the one undamaged tire (running front)—gotta say it was pretty nice at ~33psi, but I've been exclusively on clinchers before. Got a little seeping on the (paved) ride out to the West Hartford Reservoir, but…"

"Just mounted up a pair of hutchinson tubless with the carbon bead. Running the bulldog on the front and the pirahna on the rear. Mounted these on a shimano dura ace road tubeless wheelset and it wasn't bad at all. Tires went on with minimal…"

Cosmo Catalano replied to Matt Haughey's discussion Anyone tried the new carbon-bead Hutchinson tubeless Bulldog tires?
"Sounds like you broke the bead. I had a similar problem with a pair of Easton Ascent II wheels (which us Velocity Aerohead rims, I believe). Taking the stock rim strip out—despite Stan's instructions not to—finally let me get the…"

Cosmo Catalano replied to Matt Haughey's discussion Anyone tried the new carbon-bead Hutchinson tubeless Bulldog tires?
"Bah. I knew it. Well, I see what I can do. Returning to the thread, I have finally managed to get the front wheel set up (rear rim has a ding that won't seal) with the undamaged tire of my pair and it's holding air well, even without…"

"Thanks for the info Andrew, that seems consistent with my experience. The carbon bead hutchinson's are tough to get on, but mine haven't burped at all and I'm loving the low pressures and reliability!"
