Bike Accessories, Cycling Jerseys UK and More… What You Need to Get Into Mountain Biking

If you’re thinking about getting into mountain biking, well done you! It’s a great activity, which enables you to stay fit, challenge yourself and enjoy the Great Outdoors; and chances are, once you’ve got going, you’ll love it.

However, getting started can feel a little intimidating, especially if you’re completely new to the activity. Before getting out there, it’s a good idea to make sure that you’ve got everything you need to get the most out of your biking experience.

Bike Accessories: What do you need to start mountain biking?

The exact nature of what you need depends largely upon the level you wish to get into it. If you’re mainly looking to enjoy the odd weekend ride with the family, you won’t actually need too much in the way of bike accessories; though of course, safety equipment such as a helmet is vital.

However, if you’re looking to take the bike out on more adventurous terrain, you’ll need to think about investing in the following equipment.

  • Protection. This is one of the most important things to invest your money on. It’s important to remember that you’ll be travelling at speed, and if you’re unlucky enough to fall off, you don’t want to cause yourself serious damage. A helmet is imperative, and you may also want to buy some protective glasses, gloves and kneepads.

  • Cycling jerseys UK. Whilst you can get away with wearing basic sportswear when cycling, it does detract from the experience somewhat. At the very least, it’s a good idea to purchase a proper cycling jersey, especially in the winter. You may also want to invest in some suitable cycling trousers.

  • Tyres. Tyres come in all types and sizes, and are suited for different terrain. If you’re mostly cycling in urban areas, you may want some road tyres for your hybrid bike. If you’re planning to go out in the country, you’ll want tyres that are more suitable for that type of landscape. If you’re unsure, talk to an expert.

  • Footwear. Again, trainers are just about suitable, though you may find that you struggle to maintain a good grip. If you’re planning to get into mountain biking seriously, invest in some proper cycling MTB shoes or boots, which are ergonomically shaped to sit well on the pedal, whilst offering better levels of comfort and support.

  • Water bottle. Of course, it goes without saying that you’ll need to stay hydrated when out on a ride; cycling can be hard work, particularly if you’re taking on tricky terrain! Get a bottle that enables you to have easy access to the water, so you don’t have to stop to take a drink.
