Josh recommends that all cyclists use 2 cheap "police body camera" style video recorders; with one facing front and one facing backwards, whenever they ride. These simple flash memory video cameras can record a days worth of video, and you would simply strap it to your helmet, jacket, and/or backpack; and use it as a daily commute recorder. If nothing happened that day you could erase the memory (or allow the camera to continuously over-write the memory) and go about your day. However if a car hits you, you will have it all recorded.

Josh Zisson mentions that this video evidence is key in getting a fair settlement from the motorist's insurance company to cover your rehabilitation costs.

Just thought I would start a discussion on this as the choices listed in the survey question in the article have no options that fit me. I was nothing but a cyclist (road, mtn, cross) for 13 years and never ran, though I did have a track background from middle and high school. When kids came along, and I got sick of just cycling events, I started running and doing triathlons.
I ran an average of 3 times per week with cycling and swimming mixed in for the past 5 years, then I realized how much I hate swimming. I have done 1/2 marathons, 5k's, and distances in between. This year I have given up swimming and plan on a summer of trail races, anywhere from 5K to 1/2 marathon, and some mtn bike races thrown in and then cross in the Fall. I have upped my running to 5 days a week with most of my runs about 4 miles long and one longer run on trails to work up to the 1/2 marathon in July. I then try to ride 3 times a week right now and will switch the difference between running and biking as mid Agust rolls around. I know I am the exception, rather than the rule, when it comes to guys doing cross, but I will state that I have no issues with any of the running sections in races and view it as an advantage for me. My heart rate does not shoot up and I feel comfortable while doing it. Just wondering how others of you view/plan/structure running into your routine.
Anyone in Seattle / Kitsap Penninsula Ride Banner Forrest?tag:cowbell.cxmagazine.com,2014-03-23:1198434:Topic:1532992014-03-23T04:27:37.022ZJesseDhttps://cowbell.cxmagazine.com/profile/JesseDelDonno

Cyclocross Camp With Jonathan Page

The Fix Studio and Lazer Sport are excited to announce a weekend cyclocross camp with current US National Champion Jonathan Page!

Page’s long and storied cyclocross career has seen him achieve more than any other American professional CX rider in history. He burst on the scene in 2003, winning the national championships, a feat he repeated in 2004, 2005, and most recently in 2013. In 2007, he became the only American man ever to stand on a Cyclocross World Championships podium, taking 2nd in Hooglede-Gits, Belgium. This past season, he was the only American man to score a top-15 in a World Cup (15th in Namur).

Totally committed to succeeding in international cyclocross, Page is partially based in Belgium, the epicenter of cyclocross. One of few American CX riders to embrace living abroad and racing week after week with the world’s best, he has knowledge of world-class cyclocross like few Americans.

This is not just a skills and drills clinic, but rather an exhaustive CX-learning experience with 12 hours of on-the-bike learning scheduled over the weekend. The first evening is devoted to a reception and questions and answers with Page. The remaining evenings offer the opportunity to review video with Page’s guidance. Since CX is not just skills, participants will also learn about CX-specific training, bike cleaning and maintenance, and methods for increasing recovery between workouts and races. In short, the weekend is an opportunity for Page to share everything he knows about cyclocross and for you to jump-start your cyclocross season!

Page will be supported by USA Cycling certified coaches Larry Foss and Chris Smith, both of whom hold USA Cycling cyclocross-specific coaching certification.

This unique experience is offered August 9 – August 11, 2013 at The Fix Studio, 3725 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis. The Fix Studio is located just six miles from Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, a hub for Delta Airlines and home of Sun Country Airlines. Riders staying in airport hotels can easily and safely access The Fix Studio via bike or a combination of light rail and bike. Contact the studio directly with travel questions.
