I always have problems with my TRP 8.4 CX brakes. They are real beauties, but the springs are crap, the rebuild kits are expensive... and can't get them in EU. I have a spare spring, but nor I and the LBS mechanic couldn't change it! So... the brakes are weak and the modulation isn't the best at the moment.

What's your opinion, experience about Shimano's new mini V brakes? Or... which brakes do you suggest?

I am selling my 2012 58cm Specialized Crux Expert aluminum frameset and build. The frame was raced for one season and rode a lot on trails and roads. It is used but not abused. There are no dents or dings. The clear coat and paint have some scratches but it just adds character. This frameset is a workhorse and deserves to be pushed.
Carbon fork is in great shape and the headset and bottom bracket bearings have been replaced recently. There are new cables and housing on it as well. Everything has been maintained and lubed as required. The frame was just gone over by the LBS a month ago.

The frameset is setup with Avid Shorty Ultimates front and back. There is a Ritchey Pro 120mm 4-bolt stem and Ritchey Pro Evo Curve 44cm bars up front. The stem and bars are nice and fat and add some comfort and responsiveness to the front end. The seat post is a Thomson Elite set-back.

The derailleurs and shifters are older Shimano 105. These are the bullet proof sets, that Shimano made before they started adding tons of plastic and overcomplicating their designs. I used newer shifters on it for awhile and switched back to these for reliability. The is a SRAM Force BB30 175mm crankset on the bike. It is currently wearing a pair of top end WICKWERKS 44/34 cyclocross chainrings. The rear cassette is fairly Shimano 105 11-28. The chain is a newer Shimano MTB chain with plenty of life.

The wheels are hand built beauties. Shimano 105 hubs are paired with Velocity A23 rims (the good American made ones). They are 32 spoke 3x and are TOUGH but responsive. I set them up tubeless with ease and raced them at very low pressure with no issues. They have never needed truing in 2 years of use!

Current tires are Panaracer RIBMO slicks but the bike includes 4 Panaracer CG cycloross tires, a Specialized Terra tire, and Ritchey file tread rear tire.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

The bike also includes a pair of TRP short pull mini-V breaks. These are great if you want more stopping power than the cantis.

A set of Shimano 105 50/34 chainrings and SRAM 46/36 cyclocross chainrings are also included. Plus there is an additional 11-23 SRAM cassette with little wear.

Also includes; several tubes, rim strips, extra spacers, about 4 sets of brake pads, and an extra derailleur hanger!

The pedals and saddle are not for sale.

Given the quality components, hand built wheels, frame in good shape, and the amount of extras I am asking $800. With everything included you really are getting two bike as this is a very capable road machine as well. I am also willing to entertain trades. I am looking for a SS rigid 29er. I will do a straight trade or work something out. I am located in the Charlotte area and would prefer to keep it local and avoid shipping but I am willing to ship for the right deal and if buyer covers cost.

As pictured, the bike weighs less than 16 lbs. This bike rides amazingly but I am focusing on cyclocross and no longer racing road so it is time to pass it on to someone that will use it. The frame size is 57cm. Full size specification can be found at bmc-racing.com. The frame is matte white and black with grey and red accents. It has been ridden less than 500 miles and never crashed. I replaced my 2011 Team Machine with this frameset. This frameset is comfortable over the long haul but is stiff when it counts and really moves when you get out of the saddle climbing. It is truly a top level frame with a practical and durable set of components. The full component breakdown is as follows.

-Sram Force shifters, front derailleur, rear derailleur, and brakes -- I regularly serviced these and they work as new. There are minor scuff and scratches expected from normal use. Sram Force is a great durable gruppo for racing. I have a pair of black lever hoods that I will include.

-Sram Red Black crankset -- The crankset is brand new with the frame and has less than 500 miles on it. It is a standard 130 BCD 53/39 with 175mm crankarms. The BB86 GXP bottom bracket is brand new and was installed with the crankset.

-Sram 1070 rear cassette -- The cassette is an 11x28 so you have plenty of range for the steep climbs in the area. There is plenty of life left on the cassette.

-Shimano Ultegra chain -- This chain was installed new on the frame and has less than 500 miles on it.

-Shimano Dura-Ace shifter cables -- These are the new Dura-Ace coated shifter cables. The coating exponentially increases the crispness of the shifting and increases the overall lifespan of the cables. They were installed new on the frame and have less than 500 miles on them.

-FSA OS-99 stem -- The alloy FSA stem is 130mm long. It is a great stem used at the top tier of the sport.

-FSA Compact Wing Pro bars -- The bars have flat tops and measure 44cm at the bottom of the drop and 42cm at the shift levers.

-Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheelset -- These are durable all around wheels. The rear rim is less than a year old and the front is two years old. The braking surface is in great shape. The freehub has been regularly serviced and maintained. Comes with a new set of Panaracer Race D 25mm tires which are grippy and very durable.

-Fizik Kium Antares saddle -- I have a red saddle and a white saddle with black accents, depending on your preference. Both show minor wear and tear expected from use.

-Lizard Skin bar tape -- If you have ever used this stuff you know how amazing it is.

-K Edge chain watcher -- This is a nice addition to keep your chain from bouncing into the frame if it drops.

The water bottle cages and computer mount are not included. The red Speedplay Zero stainless pedals can be included for an additional $90.

I am looking to get $3,500 cash or $3,600 PayPal. I'd be willing to sell the frameset (frame, seatpost, fork, bottom bracket, and headset) for $2,500. The new frameset retail price is $4,000. The price is quite low considering it is a new frameset, crankset, chain, and cables but I unfortunately need to part with it. Please do not hesitate to email me with questions or for additional pictures.

I can deliver this in the Bay Area or ship for an additional fee.

This question came up while I was looking at the Salsa Warbird series (beautiful bikes btw) and noticed they are using some of the Shimano CX70 components. The geometry of the bike is different from most cyclocross bikes but seems to serve some similar purposes. The big difference I can see is gravel races are usually long distance so gravel bikes designed more with comfort in mind.

Please feel free to discuss. I would love to hear people's opinions on these two styles of bikes, the differences and similarities.
Road Wheelset: Shimano 105 and BWW Blackset Rimstag:cowbell.cxmagazine.com,2013-09-15:1198434:Topic:1475562013-09-15T17:31:32.015ZJustin Thompsonhttps://cowbell.cxmagazine.com/profile/JustinThompson

I bought a new pair of Sidi Spiders, and they just don't work for my feet. Only worn indoors, never had cleats mounted. Includes box and all original packaging. Size 48 and I'm throwing in an extra pair of soles. If you're not familiar, the Spiders fall between the Dominators and the Dragons/Dracos in Sidi's mtb hierarchy. They're sometimes called 'cross specific. $260 bucks gets the whole package; shoes and replacement soles. I'm in Portland, but I will ship for an extra $15.

In the past year, I've put my cross bike through a good amount of training, racing, and overall abuse. Crashes here and there and lots of mud and sand have messed up my shifters enough to warrant replacement. The original components are all Shimano, but my beloved road bike is Campagnolo equipped. I much prefer the look and feel of Campy, but a complete gruppo swap is much more than I'd like to spend. And not sure how Campy Ergopower shifters hold up in cx?

BUT! I just came across something on Facebook that makes it very hard to say no even though I typically buy from my LBS. Nashbar seems to be unloading Super Record 11-speed shifter sets!

Having spent multiple summers working at a local shop, it kills me to be shopping around online. I do my best to give my business to my local shop, but sometimes the internet just wins. Red hoods aside, the price even beats a used set on ebay. I'd love to pull the trigger, but want to confirm some compatibility first.

I found this article that details the compatibility of Campy Ergopower shifters with Shimano drivetrains. http://www.cxmagazine.com/shimano-campagnolo-ergopower-compatibility

It looks like I could use my Shimano rear derailleur and change the cable clamp and everythign should play nicely. Has anyone done this using a non-Rapid Rise derailleur? The Rapid Rise option sounds interesting too. The pictures show that the cables need to be clamped a bit differently to use the 11-speed levers with 10-speed shimano: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclocross-magazine/6513120051/in/set-72157628422602807/lightbox/

This could be my opportunity to get the best of both worlds if so because from what I understand, I could keep my current 10speed cassette/wheel setup, and even my front derailleur.

Has anyone given this a shot or have experience with the shifting and setup?
