I'm a cross noob - not racing yet, but planning to. I've been practicing my dismounts and I'm doing okay. I can pick up the bike smoothly and run with it.

But my remounts are choppy - I'm not clipping in well, I'm losing momentum/speed, it's just ugly. Any advice for improving the remount?

Recently I've been getting sick with more vigorous off-bike cardio. I thought it was my diet, or related to fluid intake, or some other things, but now I'm wondering if it was because of my breathing.
Yesterday, while doing the same series of exercises I was very concerted about breathing only through my nose. As a result, I think I slowed my respiratory pattern, and either by consequence or happenstance, I didn't get sick. I know that if a person hyperventilates they can get nauseous, but…

Yesterday, while doing the same series of exercises I was very concerted about breathing only through my nose. As a result, I think I slowed my respiratory pattern, and either by consequence or happenstance, I didn't get sick. I know that if a person hyperventilates they can get nauseous, but when cycling and building up more metabolites than usual you need to increase your respiratory rate to breathe off the CO2. So is there a middle ground? Do you who are in the know worry about your breathing? In norcal we've got lots of sand - usually in the form of just fine, loose, dry dirt. In New England, there's some when there was an elementary school or beach involved. We've found the best technique is to stay relaxed in the upper body, and power through it. The worst thing you can do is downshift - otherwise you might as well get off and run before you lose so much momentum you have to shift.
But a new video here makes us question whether that's the right approach. Perhaps neon green animal suits and a girl blowing garlic breath down our noses is a better way to get better at riding sand. I'm starting this thread in response to questions about what technique fellow racers use when dismounting.

Do you:

Step right foot through?
Swing your right leg wide?
Unclip before or during the dismount?

Share your tips, and techniques.
