I mtb race in the 35+ beginner class. Last week I placed 14 out of 43. Also, I weigh 200 lbs.

I have never raced CX, but I plan to give it a try this fall.

Should I race Cat 4 men, or should I race 2/3/4 35+ Men?

Lastly, I live in Northern VA, if that helps with the competition level I will face.

I am looking to have fun and not finish last.

start with beginner and then if you podium, move up. It might be wicked hard, but maybe you will rock. No worries, have fun.
Beginner, as in CAT 4?
Sure why not? If this is just a start one race isn't going to hurt ya. then again. :)
OK, I only ask b/c the series in which I would race dones not offer a beginner class.
yeah, do cat iv. nobody will call you a sandbagger until you podium more than once. if you podium a few times, or win one, go for the upgrade. good luck and have fun!
