Just to make sure a simple alternative isn't an option - what's your rear cassette? If it's a 12+ you could jump to an 11, which would give you an equivalent front ring bigger than a 50 (50.6).
I'm pretty sure you should be able to fit a 50 though...but don't have experience. Many people used to run a 48t for cx, and can't imagine the bike was designed to not accommodate that, and a 50 is barely bigger (in terms of diameter).
