I'm trying to install Empellas but it seems the brake mounts on my Redline frames and forks are too long. There's about a 1 mm excess of post so that the brake arms have some play when the securing bolt is fully tightened. Is that by design? If not, I've considered the following possible solutions:

-File down the mount
-Cut down the mount
-Put a washer on the mount to force the brake arm to sit farther out

Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue with CR720's on my X-Fire. I thought about grinding the post mounts down but decided not to since the mounts are bonded in and not easy to replace. I put Tektro V brakes on the front that I like more anyway and fit no problem and have some other brakes coming for the back. I don't know how the spring works on the empellas but on most brakes a washer would interfere with the spring.
Don't mess with the canti stud.

Just put a washer, or two, on AFTER you mount the brake but BEFORE you secure the mounting bolt.
I've ridden a few times without any modifications (i.e. the brake arms still have some play) and have not had any issues so far. Braking power is as expected, doesn't seem like there's any pad slipping . . . so for now I'm going to run it as is.

I might try throwing a washer in there on the pit bike setup to see how that feels, though.
