Hello!

Yet another noob question - I am glad this section exists! I was hoping for some input from those of you that have run both types of brakes. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly please! I have a few ideas up front as my old mountain bike had canti's and my current bike has disc but my overall experience is pretty much nil in maintenance and practical experience in cyclocross.

I think the canti's would have easier maintenance and possibly easier to get parts for as I think they are still the prevalent brake

I think the disc brakes might be heavier but offer better mud buildup resistance. It seems they make spoke replacement more difficult.

thoughts?

Thanks!

Chris

I rode disc CX for the last year and recently switched to mini-Vs.

They are both capable and will do a great job. I ride very sandy and muddy courses in Seattle and mini-Vs worked great in both.

Ride what you prefer; it's really a subjective preference issue. There's not a huge practical difference.

I prefer the easy maintenance of mini-Vs and I'm using them on the new custom CX frame I'm building up.

great! thanks a bunch :) the discs seem to add a good chunk to the price....
