Just had a crazy thought...

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences setting up Reynolds carbon clinchers (assaults specifically) for tubeless use? Specifically with 32-34c CX tires?

Good idea/bad idea? Anyone tried this?

Reynolds r2 (attack) 32mm carbon clinchers worked fine tubeless with vittoria xg tubeless tires.

It's all about what tire you use.  I'm going to give the vittoria tubeless a shot. If you use a non-tubeless tire you'll be able to get it working but you'll end up having issues if you push the pressure into really low territory.

Also consider that you run the risk of cracking the bead seat of a carbon rim if you run too low of pressure and bottom out  on a rock or something - rendering the rim useless.  I've been running some Hutchinson Bulldogs tubeless for a few months now on some Mavic Open Pro CD rims and must admit that tubeless is the way to go (at least for me) and I'll never run a tube again, but only on non-carbon rims.

thats a good point...a very good point. enough reason for me to shelf the idea in fact. thanks for the 2c!

No problem :)
