Can anyone explain the difference between a Cat 4 race and a masters 35+ cat 4 race? Registering for the Spooky bicycles race next sunday in easthampton ma, they seem to have both. One is 40 min, other 45 min with Cat 1-4.
Ran last weekend at The New England Verge race at look park as a Cat 4... 35+ masters and it was one big(150) group of all sorts.

To me it's a little unclear from your description. Do you have a link to the registration page?

Thanks.
Last week was a Cyclosmart Verge race no reg. info now? Next week is http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9913.
That's what I needed.

The Cat 4 race is people in there first year or two of 'cross. Beginner only. All ages but a fairly uniform experience level.

The Masters race is based on age but open to any ability level. So the super fast guys will be in your race as well and there's a very very good chance you will get lapped.

Mainly the difference is do you want to race with people of your ability but some young people who might not care so much about being at work on Monday or do you want to race with people your own age but who are potentially way faster.

Does that answer your question?
Choices...made it through the last race without being lapped, and grabbed a couple college kids. I wouldn't expect 150 racers this weekend, but the later start is appealing, even with the extra 5 minutes of time.
Can't wait!
Matt
