I'd say use the terrain you have to help make barriers cool...for the Ithaca GP I incorporate the steps in the "Amphitheater of Pain" which also provides a stage for the band.<p style="text-align: left;"><img alt="" height="1704" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2163851969?profile=original" width="2272"></img></p>

The steps are about 16-18" tall, which is kind of hard to see in the pic.<br />

Also, if you can get sponsors to provide banners, those always make for a nice way to separate the barriers from other parts of the course, plus sponsors will like the publicity. Most non-racers will hang…
