It would be interesting to see statistics on the percentage of disc braked bikes racing at nationals, and also the percentage of winners on discs.  I have never seen any concrete numbers regarding how many disc bikes are out there... but all we hear about in cycling media is disc disc DISC.

Anyone know if any information like this is out there?

I gave mechanical discs an honest try, with Avid bb7 and trp spyre. Even with compressionless housings, I still found the lever effort to be pretty heavy compared to a nice set of mini-v brakes with decent pads.

Hydros are a different beast, both in price and ease of setup/adjustment, but certainly feel better. Disc road and cross wheels just aren't being offered at a level to match the frames being cranked out, especially with the multiple flavors of thru bolts.

I ditched my disc frame and am back on a long-in-the-tooth canti Crux, and am quite happy.
