hello,

yesterday i drive over a long distance (4hours) in a holy shit wheater (5°Celsius and continous rain). Due to the fact i drive with Shimano Touring shoes, after a short time my feet was cold and wet. I know there exist´s many options to prohibid such a worse time on the bike. Is an overcoat the best type of protection? ..are they suitably for an cyclocross race? Or should i buy waterproof winter shoes? What is with rainproof (gore tex) sox?

Thanks!

Have you tried a set of booties? I think they start abou 30 dollars. That should help insulate without needing to buy a new set of shoes.
Booties are great, but I don't think they would be very good in a 'cross race. I used plastic sandwich bags over my wool socks for the cold races last year and they worked great.

This year I'm going to try the plastic bag trick plus maybe some Toastie Toes or some other type of foot warmer and see how that is for the colder races at the end of the season.
Befor I decide to get a set of booties, I want to look for an shoe wich is waterproof (anybody know a model?). I only found shoes like Sidi Diabolo, but I think this style is a little bit to warm..

PS: yes the plastic bag rocks ;)
check out some of the Lake stuff...
i think the Lake MX 140is a good choice..
Last weekends race was cool and VERY wet with lots of mud...Best shoes Sidi Diabolo! Walked into the river to rinse bike off with these shoes on, dry feet! and a cleaner bike to wind dry on the roof on the trip home.. Cold weather racing (snow) these shoes are the best thing since clipless pedals! Tried the Northwave and they where very warm but not waterproof like the Sidi...If you can pony up the cash Sidi Diabolo's are a great shoe for cross in the wet and cold...

Just got a pair of Specialized Defroster boots. Temps in the high twenties F now with snow and mud. So far so good, warm enough and no wet feet yet.
