Why I'm selling:
My Kona Major Jake needs a new owner, who can take it to the races. All it's done with me is a handful of practice rides at the park, and a total of 150-200mi of my uneventful (gentle terrain; never in the rain) 4mi commute to-and-from work.
After years of racing exclusively single-speed -many times against geared rigs, I bought this bike thinking I could race both single-speed and age categories, and be competitive, you know, like Ryan Trebon on his Major Jake -before he switched teams for this year.
But turns out I like my 12 year-old steel 'cross bike too much, and have come to realize that the gear disadvantage actually fuels my motivation on race-day, and gives me a good excuse to explain a poor performance (second only to crashing...and flats).
What I think of it:
The heart of this bike is the Scandium frame: lightweight, responsive, stiff.
So what does that mean? It means this bike is great at starts, hard accelerations, cornering, and handling. Last time I checked, that was the definition of Cyclocross.
If stiffness and handling are important to you, this just might be your bike. If on top of that you have an aggressive/attacking style, then for sure this is for you. After all, this is a racing machine.
