I (long time bike mechanic) built these wheels for myself this fall. They came out very well, I build 20+ sets of wheels per year and these stand out as a very very solid build.

I rode the wheels on 1 training ride, 1 local race, one day of the Planet Bike USGP, and the rear wheel both days of the KY. USGP. That’s it!

I bought the now discontinued Ultegra 6600 hubs in 24hole this summer, the only difference between them and the 6700 hubs is the finish and the 6600 hubs were available is spoke counts below 32h.

Spokes are Double Butted 2.0/1.7 Wheelsmith, I have found the quality to be equal to DT

Nipples are aluminum on the front and non-drive side on the rear. Rear drive side is brass so the wheel is easer to true and the higher tension nipples are less likely to strip.

Rims are Major Tom’s from Velocity, very cool 23mm wide for very good tire gluing surface and makes a very laterally stiff wheel.

Tires are the very fast Challenge Grifo XS 32, most American’s uses them for grass crit’s, but the eruo’s use file treads like year around. I really like the XS’s they are really more of an all-rounder than a dry only tire.

Tires glued on with Belgium Cyclocross world tape method

Includes stock Ultegra QR’s, small mark on rear from being clamped in trainer down in KY.
