I am looking for a new bike after riding my hybrid (Specialized Sirrus) for just over 2-years. I've thought about what kind of riding I want to do and since I was introduced to CX 2-weeks ago, I am looking for a CX bike I can learn to race on and do some moderate road riding. Understand I am WAY more interested in CX than long road rides, but it's nice to go out with friends of mine when they are looking to ride 20 miles.
Bottom line, I am looking for any and all input. I have a couple of options in mind as I've narrowed my search down. Specialized and Cannondale 'cross bikes are the two I am looking at right now, but am wide open to advice. My LBS has a 'cross clinic I am planning to attend and I am going to try to race as soon as I can (it looks like a total blast!)
I searched the forum but search results kept coming up empty, so, I apologize if this topic has ben hashed out elsewhere.
Cheers,
Timmy

If you have the coin, get a good cross bike and just have at it! A cross bike makes a fine road riding rig (maybe even a racing rig). Just switch to slicks for pavement.
If money's holding you back, would it be possible to try a few races on your Sirrus? Not sure if you can get 32mm tires on there but if so, that might be enough to whet your appetite while you decide on a full-bore cross rig.
Thanks Marc (late reply),
I wound up buying a Specialized Crux EVO last Fall. After swapping tires several times, I managed to p/u an OEM, disc-ready Roubaix wheelset that I fit with road tires. I am still riding the original Specialized 700x38c Triggger Sports. I've now moved to NH and am near a LBS that has 'cross clinics plus have some great beginner-intermediate MTB courses I am riding to work on handling and variable terrain. The Crux is fantastic. It's a perfect do (almost) everything bike. If I can just get my head wrapped around re-mounts I might finally try to go to an event and race!
(on a side note, my Sirrus had 700x33c original tires on it and now sports some VO fenders and other accesories for just riding around town.)
