Awesome! Now I just need to learn to build wheels and I'll be set. I think I'll take up this project over the winter.

Still going strong. I've been using them with grifos and haven't needed to true yet. Just built up another set to use with the new vittoria 320tpi xg's.

My friend has zipp 303 tubulars, they weigh in at 1330 grams while the velocity/vista/db spokes weighed in at 1380.

The encouraging part about the wheels is the replacement cost. I can race and not think about ruining expensive wheels. If I fold a rim, I'd be out $50 instead of $500.

I think I'm going to build up the Velocity/Sun Vista Cruiser wheels you posted about. How have they been holding up? Would you still go with the same rim?

I've been building up wheels with the velocity hubs. They are less money than ultegra and weigh way less. Last set of wheels were 32h velocity hubs to sun vista cruiser wheels. They weighed 1380 grams.

Now I'm building some 28h velocity escape (gold!) gold rims to these hubs. Should be around 1400 grams...we'll see.

I really like my ultegra hubs laced to velocity escape rims.
They are lightweight and are just about the cheapest way to go.

Also if you are lightweight (~150lbs) the velocity rims can be 28 spoke. which mavic doesn't do.

I've been running Revolution Wheelworks' REV-50X's this season, and they're absolutely fantastic. They're light as anything I've every used, beautifully smooth, and have held up to the worst that Belgium can dish out: nasty curbs, rocks, and dropoffs, deep mud, thick dust. They're especially great in the mud because the deep rims kind of cut right through it, rather than picking it up like some other wheels I've used have done. But, ok, maybe a little out of your price range.
But the REV-25X is almost identical except for the rims and about half the price. They're still great, very light, hand-built wheels. Definitely worth at least a look if you're able to spend just a bit more money. Would anyone be interested in 105(32h)/KinLin TB-25/DB spokes for $225+Shipping or with Ultegra hubs (28 or 32h) for $300+Shipping. I can do other combos but ask for quotes

I had some velocity escape rims last year. They are slightly aero to shed mud and just as light as the mavic reflex rims.
Escapes are only single walled rims, where the Mavic Reflex are double Eyeletted, I never had a problem with my mavics going out of true where my escapes seemed to go out every other race. I weigh 170 lbs and both wheelsets were 28 holes.

Cheap, reasonably light, reliable:

Velocity Escape rims, Ultegra hubs, have a good wheelbuilder put 'em together.

Glue on some Challenge Griffos or Fangos, you're ready for anything.

Seems to me that Mavic Relflex's are soft, and dent easily.
