I bought a 2009 Fuji Cross Comp this year (got it new, in spite of being old - got a good deal). I have been training heavily for the "Crusher in the Tushars" race coming up in July. So far, the Kona's that came stock with the bike have been fine, but they're starting to wear. I'd like to order a replacement sooner rather than later and am looking for recommendations. I'm riding tube rims (and with my budget, that won't change).
The Crusher is 70 miles, 10,000 vertical feet on typical "Mountain West" forest service roads, with a little bit of single track (hard pack). So it's a combination of hard pack, gravel, and somewhat sandy. I have absolutely no interest in dealing with flats--I ride Armadillos on my road bike and would LOVE to find a CX tire with a purpose-appropriate tread pattern that's as tough as my Armadillos, if that's possible.
Does anyone have a recommendation? I browsed around looking for reviews here, found a few but nothing really head to head. If someone can recommend a site or a head-to-head review, that'd be great! If there's a thread here, please just point me at it (I haven't found one yet).
