Ill echo the other posters, I have both, eggbeaters are faster and more consistent both clipping in and out, but slightly less stable. the eggbeaters are on the cross bike the candies on the road/mtbs

Personal opinion having both types I have eggbeaters on my race bikes and moved the candies onto my commuter. It may be mental but I feel like I clip in faster and smoother with the eggbeaters.
