I read the article on using rapid rise derailleurs on a road shifter. Is anyone trying this, all I can find in a search of the google is a Norwegian who says it works great in the snow. Are there any crossers in here who have tried this. I am having a bike built right now and will be spec'ing a rapid rise XT with an Ultegra shifter. Any other thoughts or tips on how to setup, or is it just plug in and go? From the descriptions in the article some of the points made me think that it might really be the way to go for cross, not for road.

I am now running a SRAM Rival shifter to an XT rear, with an 8 speed cassette. Currently the setup seems to be quite nice, but needs some refinement. Anyone have any tips on this combo.
