I am looking at the possibility of upgrading to Dura Ace 7900 shifters (long story) but have not found any super positive reviews. And in terms of using them for cross, really have not found anything positive or negative. My only real concern I guess is the openness of the internals on the underside of the shifters and the chances of dirt and mud getting in there.

So who is currently running them and what do you think? Worthy upgrade?

I am currently using 7800's

7800 still shifts better...
The quest for a SRAM-like cable pull and hidden cables made the performance suffer.

Euro-Dogs are using Di2 and 7900, but they get their stuff for free and have full time mechanics.
My road bike came with all DA 7800 stuff and I put 7900 shifters on for purely aesthetic reasons (hidden brake cables). It seems to work the same, so if you're looking for an upgrade in performance only I would think your money would be better spent somewhere else.
