I'm using a 1x9 setup with a 39t ring in front. I'd like to go to a 42t, but the chainstay clearance is really tight. I use an outboard Shimano BB, and was wondering if anyone has successfully used a spacer with this type of setup before.  I know many mtbs use them, but I'm not sure if the road cranksets have a long enough spindle. Anyone out there with advice/experience?

I successfully used a 105 Hollowtech crankset and 2mm of spacers on the driveside on a steel Voodoo Wazoo with a 68mm English shell. I was fine tuning a SS chainline.

That's what I was hoping to hear.  Just wanted to make sure the spindle would be long enough to allow a mm or two.  Thanks!

not sure if you saw but you got a bunch of responses on facebook too: http://www.facebook.com/Cyclocross/posts/10150383427537092

Yep, saw that, but thanks for the heads up!
