I discovered this tip a few weeks ago and can attest to it working brilliantly!!
My new bike arrived partially built and I could never dial in the rear shifting. After replacing the cable (due to possible kinks) and much cursing in the man cave I found a SRAM tech tip saying the cable housing from the rear cable stop to the derailleur needs to be 36cm in length for optimal shifting. I checked my cable length and low and behold - 29cm. After replacing the housing and cable (a longer one was needed) my shifting is now spot on and the man cave is once again a sanctuary.
