I have a Redline Metro I stripped and then built up with a Campy Veloce triple groupset accept for the SRAM X5 crankset and chain. I also have a rack, bags, trailer, wheels I built myself with a dynamo hub, and the stock Tektro Lyra brakes. As I found when I was getting by being a bicycle mechanic, the stock Tekro pads are a bit meh, and don't have the initial bite I like. I know I could just get some nice brake pads and that would be an improvement. But I have been thinking about putting some better brakes on it. I like the idea of the Hy/Rd, and I already have compressionless housing on the bike (Nokon). But I hear they have a lot of throw in the lever, especially with Campy ergos. I'm not a fan of that. I'd like things to be more immediate. There also seemed to be some grumblings about the Hy/Rds feels. The Spyres however seem to get rave reviews period. Also, it seems the used Hy/Rds go for less than the Spyres on ebay.
What are y'all's thoughts? Will the compressionless housing and absolute power of the Hy/Rds win out over the Spyres when going down hill, loaded down with groceries and a trailer, in the rain and a kitten jumps out in front of me? ;)
