What's a good tubular, non-carbon rim for CX? - Cyclocross Magazine2024-03-28T13:54:22Zhttps://cowbell.cxmagazine.com/forum/topics/whats-a-good-tubular-noncarbon?commentId=1198434%3AComment%3A32808&feed=yes&xn_auth=noI've been racing with a pair…tag:cowbell.cxmagazine.com,2009-08-21:1198434:Comment:362892009-08-21T03:31:09.358ZCabo Wabohttps://cowbell.cxmagazine.com/profile/CaboWabo
I've been racing with a pair of 2007 R28 SL3's (clinchers) for the past two seasons and my 140 lbs body has not damaged them. I think they are up to a SL5 version now. If you are a bigger guy I think the M28 Aero3 would be better for you.

These have been the only wheels I have raced on since replacing the stock wheels on my Felt so I can't really compare them with any other wheels.

There are several brands named here that are awesome non-carbon tubular rims.

Velocity Escape
and the
Mavic Reflex are probably your safest, easiest bets. However, I would look into the Ambrosio Crono F20's. Light and strong....what more do you want?

give some bontrager x-lite alluminums a try. I break every wheel I ride and this made it an entire season last year. Not super light but durable and built around DT swiss hubs! Nothing wrong with that!
pls do tell me what you think of the Neuvation wheels ~ i was considering the clincher-suitable versions myself... currently riding on Mavic Ksyrium Elites from 2002-ish - a bit heavy... I was looking to put the neuvations on my Blue to shed some weight....
Sorry for the late reply. Cracked it in a race. DCCX, going up a steep rise with some tree roots that were exposed. I was feeling pretty good (late, but good nonetheless) and was passing a few people. Went up that rise pretty fast, must have hit a tree root, and that was it.

Took a big gash out of the tire and wrecked the rim.

The fact that you add "without an explosion!" tells you all you need to know ... my team manager doesn't allow me that kind of budget for wheels.
