These wide/narrow tooth rings will be similar to the XX1 SRAM mtb rings except that they are for CX and will work with 10sp also.
The cost will be ~$80. They should be up on our webstore this weekend: http://www.wolftoothcycling.com/
These rings are definitely high quality and very stiff so they will work on a SS.
That said, the main goal of our wide/narrow teeth chainrings is that they should allow riders to run 1x10 or 1x11 without all a chain guide. This has been quit popular for mtbks this year as it saves weight and makes the bike simpler (less to break)
Yes, testing is ongoing to confirm our initial results that the system works.
We expect pre-sale to start next week. We will start shipping the week after that.
The CX rings are now up for presale and will be shipping next week. Sizes 40-42 in 110 and 130 BCD. The 38t and 44t will be shipping the week after next and will go on sale next week sometime.
These things are going to make a rockin' 1x setup=)
Pretty excited for these! Quick question- have you guys tested these 1x with a road der, or just a clutch -type mtb der?
We are testing with both Clutch and no-clutch. Certainly the clutch won't hurt, but about 1/3-1/2 our mtbk clients are not using a clutch with very few chain drops.
CX has some mechanical advantages of mtbk too (more teeth on ring engaged and short cage rear derr) so we think most conditions no clutch will be needed.
Clutch or not, we still thing a chain catcher will be needed in REALLY clumpy muddy conditions (our mtbk data gathering tells us this, as some top World Cup teams are doing this now even with a clutch).
