I'm trying to start riding cyclocross and ride my bike around Chicago during the winter.
What is a good gear ratio for a single speed/ fixed gear set up on an old lugged frame?
Any help would be useful.
I ride with 700x30 knobby tires on my bike at the moment, and a 48/17 set up but find it difficult to go a little faster and the bike feels heavy with the knobby tires.
Thanks for the help.

yea, you should drop that gear ratio to maybe a 42 while snow is about the streets and such. ATMO
Hey Dan,
Thanks for the info.
I will try the 42/17 ratio.
