Ok so this week i began seriously riding the trainer again and it started out rough but by tuesday i was having a better time and riding longer. So i thought i'd hold a non scientific poll and see how others feel about riding the turbo trainer.

Jesse, I find Strava is mostly a motivational tool...  I like your running goal.  What really helped me is to do interval research on running websites.  I was able to pick up about 1m/mile over the winter doing this.  I stick to the local HS track so I can do more structured workouts.  I will mix it up between "running effeciency" @ the track and a few road runs.  For Example:

Warmup: Skipping, Bear Crawl, Stork Walk, Lunge walk, Inchworm, walk backwards, latteral shuffle (look these up on youtube if you don't know them)

Workout: 3 - 100 yard striding (focus on form), 3 - 300 (3/4 lap) yard at slightly above comfortable, 3 - 800 (2 laps) yard at slightly above cofortable ...  You should be gassed when you get done.  You're trying to train your body to opperate and recover at a higher level.

***  Walk backwards for about 100 yards minute between each set.  You should be slighty gassed when starting your next set.

Cool down & stretch

Strava..absolutely. I have a Garmin 800 so I can upload directly. I also track my workouts on TrainingPeaks.

"Off Season", what is that? Here in New Hampshire the winters are long so during the week it is on the trainer and treadmill. Weekends out on the road unless ice or snow covered. As far as trying work towards running a 5K, checkout the book 'Run less, run faster". Same concept as "Time Crunched Cyclist".

I am on week 3 of an 8 week plan to be able to run 30 minutes non stop, with hopes of being able to do a 5K non stop in april.  I just got a bike fit today on my road bike so I am going to start ramping up the road riding...

I do strava.  find me at josh tabije.

off season will consist of riding trails as much as possible before it gets dusty, usually June.  then start gearing up for the season on the road and CX bikes.  i'm moving up to Cat B so I have a lot of work to do.

Hey everybody! Any "off-season" training plans?

Raced Orchard Cross Masters 45+ 3/4 on sunday and placed 20th. Best result so far in my short time racing cross. Even beat about a dozen Masters 35+ who started a minute in front of us. Results are improving each race.

nice work Jesse!  this upcoming weekend is a rare off weekend.  each weekend afterwards is booked w/ races until Xmas.  i took 6/65 in BASP#2 and 4/42 at Surf City #1. The course was the hardest CX course i've ever raced.  2 substantial runups...one of which was preceded by 4 barriers going up a hill.  Plenty of sand and loose stuff and a few really hard uphill sections.  i think the course had about 190 ft of climbing per lap.  Found out that the Surf City CX series is the longest running series in the country.  pretty cool!

OK! I "raced" today and man was it MUDDY!  I have never did a mud race and it was pretty fun, in a stressful kind of way.  Did really good at staying relaxed and powering through the glop.  I was hanging with another slow dude when, BAM!  I hit the deck, those course stakes are really pounded in the ground...anyway after that I was pretty well on my own the whole rest of the race.  Don't know where I finished but I finished, which is always on top of my checklist.
