I'm trying to start riding cyclocross and ride my bike around Chicago during the winter.
What is a good gear ratio for a single speed/ fixed gear set up on an old lugged frame?
Any help would be useful.
I ride with 700x30 knobby tires on my bike at the moment, and a 48/17 set up but find it difficult to go a little faster and the bike feels heavy with the knobby tires.
Thanks for the help.

So how about Campton!

I think that was the most fun I've had at a race ever. Now I just have to clean the bikes!

We've had good races/venues so far this season. Only 4 more Chicago races to go :(.

Hats off to SCW for an excellent venue! Being able to dress indoors prior to the race and then taking a HOT shower after deserves a 5-star rating. The course was much improved than last year but still not sure about the barrier before the sand pit (mainly since I clipped my foot on it on the last lap!!!). Anyhow how did everyone else feel about it?
