Tim Johnson (CCCB) at Fort Devens, chasing the McCormacks

Tim riding the Michelin mud clinchers, and a steel bike.

Any guesses as to the bike he's riding? Let's see if there are any bike geeks out there who remember, or recognize that bike/color.

Good job guys.  It was a Fuji.  I remember Colorado Cyclist had an awesome blow-out deal on these for a while.  Voodoo also had a similarly colored bike just a bit later.

Well I stand corrected. Fuji Cross, well done and thank you for settling this.

Definitely a fuji I remember this bike well it was one of the few off the shelf bikes you could get at the time.  I think it was the following year that he went to IF.

Guys, it's a Fuji-- top tube reads "CROSS" down tube reads "FUJI" I've never seen an IF from the late 90s with subtle logos or a fork like that.

The down and to tubes have faint boxes with letters in them ala indy fab.  Besides TJ is from the Mass. and so in indy fab and he rode an indy fab in 98

I'm still leaning on the Ibis, it looks like it might have the tell tale Ibis Handjob rear brake stop. Ibis Handjob

And those look like Breezer rear drop-outs which Ibis always used.
