Bloomington

Blooming Colors and Cyclocross –Amanda McKay
(Bloomington, Ind.) The Ohio Valley Cyclocross Series (OVCX) paused in Bloomington, Indiana for a quick dive through an untraditional mix of fast single-track, multiple bridges, a paved climb and some sloppy field sections, all the while fall colors in full bloom.
It was time for harvest in the elite men’s field with no time to enjoy the landscape as OVCX leader Mitchell Kersting (Bob’s Red Mill) sprinted from the start and didn’t look back. The only rider within thirty-seconds of Kersting was Team Nuvo’s Eric Hamilton. Robert Kendall (Barbasol) Mike Purvis (WORKitOUT/KHS), and Nathan Roberson (Schellers Cycling and Fitness) rounded out the top five respectively.
OVCX leader Nicole Borem (DRT) proved she was on top of her game as she hung with AnneJean Dellaire (Bob’s Red Mill) then swiftly passed her going into the third lap then maintained her lead through the remainder the race. Amanda McKay (Biowheels/Reece-Campbell Racing) crashed and lost a few positions before regaining composure and catching Dellaire, who later dropped out due to leg cramps. Emily Benson (DRT), Bridgett Donovan-Billiter ( Trek Cincinnati/Seven) and Pam Loebig (Pony Shop) rounded out the top five respectively.
In the Elite Master’s Fred Rose (Bike Reg) led the entire race but was caught by Michael McShane (Calistoga Racing) on the finishing stretch. He managed to hold him off to maintain first position. Morgan Webb (Barbasol) won most aggressive racer of the day by coming back from tenth up to the wheel of McShane but he wasn’t able to maintain the pace and dropped off, holding onto the third spot. Tom Brockman (Louisville Firefighters) and John Mandrolla (Calistoga Racing) finished in the fourth and fifth position.
The OVCX series will head South for the Grand Prix in Louisville, Ky. Oct. 24-25.
