I'm a bike racer and a bike mechanic. I really, really like cyclocross. I race for the HRS/Rock Lobster cyclocross team in northern California.
Current Bike Collection:
2 Easton scandium tubed Rock Lobster cross bikes built with:
Easton forks, wheels, cranks, seatpost, stem and bars
Chris King Headsets
Paul Components brakes
Crank Brothers pedals and qr skewers
Fizik saddles and bar tape
Hudz shifter grips
I also wear Sheila Moon armwarmers, undershirts and hats and I use GU Sports energy drinks and gels, and Bob's Red Mill food to get fueled up to race! I also apply Mad Alchemy embrocations to my legs before the start.
I have lots of favorite courses, but top 5 are:
R.I. nationals course, snowy year
Gloucester, MA even though I've never raced well there
Alpenrose Dairy, especially when it's not too muddy...
Coyote Point Pilarcitos course, first place I ever raced
Manzanita Park CCCX
I've already got a pair of my dream bikes. Seriously.
Favorite thing about cyclocross:
It's the perfect blend- You have to be fast and powerful like a crit racer, you have to be good in the corners and off road like a mtb racer, and smart with tactics like a track racer or sprinter in order to get the job done and have a win. Add in all the fun of (sometimes) bad weather, dismounts and remounts, tires that get glued on and dealing with 2 bikes and a mechanic- what more could you want? Oh yeah, spectators! It's also the best type of racing to watch, so that settles it.
How long have you been racing cyclocross?
