Kurt Schauwecker replied to Ryan R's discussion Best all around cyclocross tubular
"Clement PDX for my top pick based on reliability, forgiving PSI range and availability. FMB Supermud with the Latex Sidewall as a really great more expensive, hard to get option. Clement MXP as a do all tire that takes a lot of mud to really clog…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Ryan R's discussion Best all around cyclocross tubular
"Wider rims help prevent pinch flats and allow a lower psi as such, but I think they are easier to roll an open tubular type tire off of since the tire doesn't neck down as much at the rim interface.  My experience points towards those…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Ryan R's discussion Best all around cyclocross tubular
"Well I should clarify a few points, pinch flatting is the #1 mechanism to flat a clincher and a wider rim will help that for sure.  I would consider rolling a clincher off of a rim to be the second most likely cause of failure unless you live…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Ryan R's discussion Best all around cyclocross tubular
"From what I have seen and is pretty well documented is that Stans Rims specifically don't play nice with that style of tire, but clinchers under 30 psi is the danger zone even for 150 lb riders regardless of rim/tire from a pitch flat.…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Ryan R's discussion Best all around cyclocross tubular
"I've seen the open tubulars roll off of clincher rims at a pretty high rate at lower pressure and there is no way they could be set up tubeless because the sidewalls aren't stiff enough. I can't imagine racing a 123 race without…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Tam's discussion What's your favorite all around CX tire?
"I've run the PDX Tubular for a season alongside Challenge Grifos and Dugast Small Birds and kept coming back to the PDX tires to the point that I'm going to run them for every race this year on my Geared bike and SS rig.  As one of my…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Paul's discussion Running in the offseason - cover page story
"My background is that I was a competitive distance runner from middle school through collegiate cross country and then I converted to bike racing (cyclocross, MT and road).  I more or less quit running entirely but enjoyed the benefits of a…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Chad Pritchard's discussion Tips for buying first cross bike
"+1 on frame geometry being the biggest difference between cross bikes and you are logging a lot of road miles you want the lower style american BB geometry vs the Eurostyle higher BB.  If you plan a lot of trail riding, the higher style Euro…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Adam_Mac's discussion Discs at Nationals
"Being that you don't own tubulars now, you are much better positioned to make the switch over to discs without having to sell multiple wheelsets.    I have raced the last 3 seasons on cantilever/clinchers then cantilever/tubulars and…"

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Adam_Mac's discussion Discs at Nationals
"Outside of the context of nationals I see more disc bikes in the cat 4/5 races locally by a long shot versus the 1/2/3 categories.  I think it comes down to having a stock of tubular wheels for road/cantilevers already and there are many new…"

"Agree about the typhoons tread.  If Challenge comes out with a team edition for the chicane available to the public, I will not hesitate to try it over the typhoon next season. Sorry to derail your selling thread, enjoy the free bumps."

Kurt Schauwecker replied to Kurt Schauwecker's discussion FS: Major Tom, White Industries Disc wheelset with Dugast Smallbird Tires
"They have a very similar thread pattern to the Rhinos shape wise, but it is pretty short.  In a straight line they are fast like a file thread, but corner better than a typhoon.  If the knobs were a little taller it would be a great all…"
