About Me:
I'm a 46 yo newbie who just finished my first CX season. I enjoyed finishing in the middle of the pack in each of my 14 local races (cat 4 and Masters). My roots are (were) in the the road and on the track. I plan to include the singlespeed picture next year. I've been a Physician Assistant in Orthopaedics for the last 10 years. I also have a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology, and speak the mitochondria language.
I finally gave cross a chance after borrowing a Redline CX bike, and I've never looked back. I built up a Gunnar, and kept the steel real. Sure I could shave off 3-4 lbs, but I like the roots feeling of the ride. After all it's about having fun and doing something that is new to me and making some new friendships at each race. I raced both the NC and TN CX series, and recruited newbies whenever I could.
If I can do anything for you in terms of Sales, to our local 13 bike shops in the 20 mile radius, let me know. I have frequented each of these shops and they are lacking severely in the CX scene. I have a little time that I could dedicate to help the niche of CX expand, and win over a few stubborn roadies and bring some new talent to the course. It humbled me to see one of our 'long list" female trackies for the 08' Olympics strugglinging in last place in the Womens PRO category race in December here in western NC. It just goes to show you that CX'ers are a niche breed that deserve a chance to make it to the print. That's where CXMag comes in and fills the void, and I appreciate it. Give me an email if I can help 'the movement'.
Current Bike Collection:
Gunnar - CX
Cannondale - Road
Mercyx - Track
KickBike - a Denmark sweetie of a 2 wheel kind...look it up. I plan to operate sales for this bike in our region. I'll be the first. It's perfect for those who want to run/train long distances (10 km - Marathons), but just can't make the foot pounding conversion because of injuries or training constraints. Dogs and kids love it alike.
Favorite Race:
Local - Hendersonville, NC, a CX-UCI event
Stateside - Portland Singlespeed, more bubbles!!!
Across the Pond - Any SuperPrestige
Dream Bike:
2009-56 cm Ridley X-Fire with a Shimano Ultegra SL cross kit
Favorite thing about cyclocross:
The aura............anything can happen during a race. Where else can you have heart pounding goosebumps on every lap while some maniac beats out on a recycled oil drums at the barriers for 'every' racer. And when I'm done with my race, I beat the drum for the next race category.............happliy. No face paint necessary.
How long have you been racing cyclocross?
Finshed my first year..........I'll be back
Racing category:
noob, weekend warrior, veteran, singlespeed
