Answering some questions about why RACE to RAISE MONEY for WWP

I've been getting several questions about what it is we are doing, so I am hoping to answer them here.

the short answer is that we are RACING cyclocross in order to help raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, in memory of our son LCpl James Kimple. James was killed in action on his secound tour or Iraq on 2-May02008.

The long and protracted answers are:…

We need to be careful

I just recieved an email from the director of the facility and he expressed concern that riders are riding too close to the fence line of the facility. PLEASE take this warning seriously and only use the courses we have marked out. If we don't follow the rules we risk losing the privilege to train there. Also he said this showed up on a video on a Thursday night. We really need to keep it to Wednesday's only. unless you let me know in advance so I can inform them.

My email is:…

Michelin Mud 2's

My new to me SOMA DC came with them and I would like an honest opinion of what you think if you run or have ran them. It started to rain this week in the PacNW so mud season has now started.

Thanks

This week at Lookout

Since the season "officially' started last week at Steamboat, it's time for us to start "racing" as well.

We'll have our "start" at 5:30 and go 6 laps. Feel free to jump in and out at will or stay in for the entire time. Just remember, this is training! The real racing is on the weekends. We don't want people ruining their seasons fighting for lines in a training race to take care of each other. You don't have to wait till 5:30 to train and you can stay as long as you want. Just be…

2010 CX Season--Labor Day Cross

Master 3 Men

Fair start--10th?

Moved to 2nd on lap 2 or 3, but paid for the effort and sat in 4th for a lap or so. 1st was out of sight I was told.

2nd half of the race my back issues began allowing 5th to move past . Regained contact with 4th place, but began to hit heavy lapped traffic allowing 6th-8th to close gap.

Sat in 7th thinking there was a final lap, but I was…

We'll start "racing" soon

So I heard that there were close to 30 riders last Wednesday! Cool! Keep coming out. Keep telling your friends. I'm going to ask a favor of all of you. I had originally planned to start our "racing" this Wednesday at 5:30. I'm going to ask your indulgence and permission to wait one more week. Here's why. I want to be there the first night we "race" and this week is a Jewish holiday - Rosh Hashana. I need to do the family thing and will be gone by 5:30. So let's keep just doing open training… Continue

They just keep getting better

Our Wednesday training sessions are growing every week. The course is getting ridden in and looking great. For this week we'll have open training again. The following week which is the Wednesday after Labor Day we'll organize a "race" situation. The "start" time will be 5:30 to give everyone a chance to get there from work. We'll roll off then and "race" 6 laps which should be equal to about 45 minutes. So, this week train, next week come to "race". See you there.

Real Vet Racing....Calling Military Vets To The Line!

I live with cycling at the center of my life. Like most here, I’m fortunate that it can take such a prominent role in our lives. We rise to ride, sleep to recover and push ourselves to excel, but there is more. This past June I had the chance to work with a group of active and retired, able and disabled military on a new project called Vet Expeditions (VET-Ex). The goal of the program is to invite a group of veterans to train for a summit bid on California’s 14,162 foot Mt Shasta. My job was to… Continue

It's Growing

Wow! Last Wednesday we had twice as many riders as the week before. Only about 20, but still it's growing. All I could do was ride around easy and show people where the course went since I'd already beat myself up doing hard efforts before anyone else got there. For the next couple of weeks we'll keep the training informal. If you want to go hard, have fun. If you want to work on skills, we have some portable barriers to use. I'm thinking that the Wed. after Labor Day we'll start something a… Continue

Wednesday night cross reminder

For those of you in the Denver area, don't forget our Wednesday night training rides at Lookout Mtn. Youth Services Center in Golden. The course has been ridden, it's been cut, I've even had some people out on motorcycles riding it in so it should be getting a bit less bumpy. Now all it takes is riders. Come on out. This week will still be a bit informal but soon, probably end of August or early Sept. we'll start to have a more "formal" race training.

Wednesday Night Training in Golden, Colorado

Last week was our first training session. The few who showed up love the course but it needs to be ridden. So I'm attaching a flyer with the pertinent information. Wednesday Night.docx

Weeknight Training in Golden, Colorado

Starting this week our course at Lookout Mtn. Youth Services Center in Golden, CO will be open on Wednesday nights for training. Come on out. The more the merrier. We are also planning to get a little more organized this year and have a "formal" training race / clinic starting at 5:00 pm at least every other Wednesday. We'll have to charge a minimal fee for those just to cover the insurance cost but it will be minimal. This is barely in the planning stage right now but you can still come out… Continue
