Pilarcitos had to come up with a course in a tertiary location in order to keep the series going smooth. The original location, Candlestick Park is a victim of park closures, and negotiations w/ the East Bay Park and Rec Dept regarding an East Bay location got stalled by one well placed ass. So adjust, Coyote Point is a great place. They came through with permits and the crew designed a course that stayed away from the beach and flats that will be preserved for the series final in Dec. So using the highest part of the course, the upper lot we climb to normally, as the epicenter ofthe race provided a nice flat paved finish line, registration and team tent area. The start was actually down a hill from the finish line a bit, so you had to climb in bark dust to get going. Then through the finish area and out into the woods on a side of the park most have rarely seen. The semi-technical, rolling track wound through the trees and traversed hillside over the broad top of a small ridge. One nice present was the snake run through the sand pit thing, and then the bumpy, leg sapping grass section right after before heading back into the woods and climbing back around and to the finish. I had a poor warm up, so typical. I was a bit concerned because I had hoped that McLaren was going to be the last of the climber's courses, well here was one more. Lap 3 was the big threshold explosion, and when I cleared after that I settled into a nice rhythm and had a decent enough race. I improved my placing to 34, but the gap to the winner was pretty much the same as last BASP race, so. At least after this race I actually feel like ok, from here on out I should be expecting some improvement.
