I'm a reformed cyclist. I started out as a die hard mountain biker and used a cross bike to help me transition to road biking. Now I do it all, but the cross bike is my first and foremost love. Whether it's a long gravel and pavement ride or a short and hard cross race doesn't matter. I find my self reaching for one of the cross bikes first and planning rides around using a cross bike.
Current Bike Collection:
All DeSalvo (He's a good buddy of mine I've known for many years. I've had other brands, but his seem to be the ones I keep. Plus they always fit me just right, which at 6'4" and 195 is important.)
1.Ti Cross Rig. DuraAce 10sp, Pauls brakes, FSA post bar and stem, too many tubbies too list.
2. Steel cross/adventure/pit bike. Columbus Life tubing, steel fork, Pauls Racer brakes, Ultegra SL 10sp and the usual FSA bits. Wheels depend onracing, commuting or gravel road slogging.
3. Steel SS MTB. King hubs and HS. Old Zocchi fork. Shimano cranks and disc brakes. WTB tires and mavic rims
4. Steel geared MTB. XTR, new zocchi fork, FSA bits and King hubs and HS. WTB tires and rims.
5. Ti road bike. Dura Ace 10sp, FSA bits and compact crank, carbon tubbies for racing, Open Pros and DA hubs for everything else. I'm trying out a set of carbon clinchers. Still deciding.
All bike run WTB Devo/Deva saddles and King HS (and hubs where applicable.)
Barton Park two years ago (2005?) I got 3rd in Open B. And last year (2007) Hillsboro. Actually got faster as the race went on. I guess I need the slop.
The Ti rig I already have. Except I'd be 20% faster.
Favorite thing about cyclocross:
I don't have the words. Either you understand or you don't. It's just something I do because it's something I do. It's as normal for me as breathing.
