I'm thinking of putting together a single speed cyclocross build. Outside of Traitor and All City, anyone know of any good, reasonably priced SSCX frame makers? Continue

A quick poll. For those times you can't ride outside, what trainer are you using and why? Or if you 100% don't use a trainer, why?

Hi Mike...
Sorry for the delayed response. Sounds like your club has you workin'!! That's a lot of hours.
I plan to lose a few pounds this season too. Right now, I'm 6' and about 187 lb. I'd like to get down to around 180 or less. If you want, send me an email address, and I'll send you my training plan in a spread sheet. Pretty simple, but it gives a good picture of what my year looks like. Very manageable with a normal work schedule too.
Hopefully, I will have a new bike this year too. I'm looking at a Blue Norcross SP. I'm going to set it up for SS, but it will also give me the option of adding gears....not sure I want to be riding SS after 50! Joking aside, that's the only downside to SS racing...they don't break down the groups by age. I raced last year against people almost half my age!!!! At least I beat a couple of them. So, at 47 I think I can still hang, but as the years tick by, I may have to play with boys my own age, and run in a "geared" group...we'll see.

Hi Mike...
Yes, I have a plan worked up for the coming year(CX is all I'm racing). It's broken down into four simple segments, and I use a heart rate monitor:
1. Weight training for strength, February and March.
2. Spinning to build the base, March until June.
3. Full training rides, June until September.
4. Racing and training, September until January.
With a SS bike, you just have to choose your roads carefully to get the proper workout. Example, for my spinning, I only ride very flat roads....can't spin going uphill! lol
This has been sort of an eye-opener for me. I was a competitive road racer 25 years ago, so I just adapted on of my old training programs, but as you know, the SS aspect really changes the workout. Especially, since I'm 47 and have been off the bike for 20+ years!
I just started back up last September, after having a stent placed in one of my coronary arteries in June. I keep my self in good shape, but it's the luck of the genetic draw!! So, with renewed awareness of aerobic fitness, I decided I wanted to ride a couple races last season. I had two simple goals; finish and not finish last. With about 8-9 weeks of riding I rode my first race and met my simple goals. Did it again in December. I'm hooked! My goals this year will once again be modest; finish, but finish mid-pack.
The biggest frustration for me was that my bike handling was excellent from my previous experience, but had no legs! lol This year will be different.
Ok, I've spilled my guts.
