thanks for the info! my basic problem is fork chatter when braking. i noticed there's a little bit of play, which is why your comment caught my eye. i ended up moving to a longer straddle cable, which got rid of at least most of the chatter. i may have to shim it if there's still chatter left. thanks again!

I saw your comment about adding a thin shim to stop brake arms from wobbling on the stud. Can you tell me what you used? Just a metal washer or similar? How thin?
