I just picked up a cheap-o cx bike from BikesDirect as a pit bike/extra bike (truth be told, I'm addicted to bikes). Anyway, at only $499, it was a good deal, but I'm already thinking about the first upgrade... and that's going to be the wheels. Can anyone recommend a good, but inexpensive wheel upgrade? Do *most* road wheelsets work okay for 'cross?

I can't think of a raod wheelset that I haven't seen used in cross. OK, maybe not the ZIPP 1080's or discs, but most road wheels do just fine. Neuvation and WIlliams make good economical wheelsets. Do you have a budget in mind?
I've actually got a set of Mavic Ksyriums that came off my wife's bike which I *could* use on my 'cross bike, or I could put 'em on my road bike and put the Bontrager wheels from my road bike on put 'em on the 'cross bike...
i have ksyriums on my cross bike - they work very well and take a beating... what does your wife think of this plan, however?!
I'm working on convincing the wife that this is the best thing to do... it will probably cost me in the long run.
check out colorado cyclist they built me a great set of wheels for 400 cxp33 with ultegra hubs
