In July, 2008, there was a race report on CXMagazine.com written by Lelan Dains (http://cxmagazine.com/dirty-kanza-200-cyclocross-race-report-2008) about his experience riding the Dirty Kanza. Since we're in the thick of 'Cobbles Week', and Battenkill is just around the corner, I wanted to ask, are there other races you know of in your area that are in a similar vein - races that blur the lines of cyclo-cross, road racing, randonneuring, and endurance mountain biking?

My goal is to create a little database of these types of races, then start doing some of the springtime events to help with base training. Also, I might try and talk Andrew into letting me write an article on these types of events for an issue of the print magazine at some point.

Here's a list of races of such ilk that I'm familiar with; please feel free to add more.

In my area, the Ottawa Bicycle Club and the guys behind the Eastern Ontario Cyclocross series put up the local "Paris-Roubaix" ride every April. Info can be found here: http://www.cyclocross.org when getting close to race time. It's presented as a "cyclosportive" but all the local studs are usually present.
Great. Thanks Bryan. I've since learned about a few more as well: Hillsboro Roubaix in Illinois, and the D2R2 in Deerfield, Massachussetts (a ride, not a race).

Any others?
Nice list Dan.

There are a few more i know of. Adam just did a paris roubaix-type event in FL, and over here in norcal we have the now-formal grasshopper and underground alley cat cx-friendly endurance dirt races.

One of my all-time faves is the always sold-out vermont 50. It's not so cx-friendly but i've seen people crazier than me do it on a cx bike. I need a granny gear to finish all that climbing. There's quite a bit of dirt roads and pavement though.

And then, of course, there's this...

No convincing needed on the article. However, Jmack is already working on a piece though...so touch base with him. I can connect you two as well.
Awesome.

I'll add them to the list. These races look like so much fun! I'll contact Jmack. Oh, the agony of making more tire selections!

Thanks Andrew.
dan, we should to the article, then manage to do a road trip across the nation hitting all of them.

oh wait, my new baby is crying...gotta run...scratch that idea.
