History/Use of the word "Prestige" in the names of races?

I'm curious about the use of the word "prestige."  Does it have any special meaning/significance when used in the name of a given event?  I haven't seen it used in other types of races, but it seems to crop up a lot in CX.

Can anyone point me to a link, or otherwise clear up the origins of and current usage of this word in the names of CX races?

Cheers,
