After a year of faithful service, my Ec90 seatpost died a shameful death during/after a MTB time trial race this AM. During my cool down/leg stretch lap my CX bike felt rather strange so I stopped and checked for a flat tire. While my tire was fine, the seatpost was cracked almost completely in two at the seat collar and was the source of my odd bike sensation. The strange thing is - I wasn't even doing remounts and the collar was to the correct toque specs. Anyway, my theory on this strange and sudden loss of component life is directly related to last weeks rather untimely death of my ec90 slx handle bars (a bike meets live oak root sort-of-thing). You see these two components were a pair, and after the bars passed the seatpost could no longer go on living, so in a fit of despair it took it's own carbon life. So sad, so very sad.
Back to Aluminum.
Cheers
