I saw another one of these at the Asper-Gavere race in Belgium on the weekend. Another example of a poorly designed product made in China.

It's not our post, the photo was taken during the Elite race on Sunday in Cincinnati. What was scary was the cheap layup of the carbon inside the post. This is an example what not to ride for cross, cheap quality carbon posts made in China.
There are quality carbon posts out there and clearly this is not not despite any "operator error" that manufacturers invariably quote as an explanation for the failure. A good friend of mine was the victim of a poor quality seatpost that impaled him up into his lower intestine.... makes you cringe just to think about it.

One thing that decreases the chance of catastrophic failure of carbon seatposts — besides proper torque — is running your seatpost clamp opposite, rather than in-line with, the notch in the seat tube.

Actually it wasn't from a remount just a compression on the track while sitting on the saddle. It occurred in Cincinnati to one of the Portland guys. That's why we run Thomson posts.

I have always been nervous about carbon seatposts. I guess this is why. I think aluminum is the way to go. I assume this happened on a remount? I have been tempted to take the EC90 post off my road bike but have always chickened out. No matter how smooth you are on remounts, you always have a hard landing here and there.

Ouch, hope you didn't get any of those carpet-fibers in your rear!

Maybe next time Thomson?
