Kisscross #5: Richmond Hills Park

Got there really early today 'cause I wasn't sure which class I was going to race. My leg was still really sore from some muscle spasm issues Friday night but when it came down to it, I just couldn't move down a class. Fitness wise I am still a bit out of my league in the B class. As far as handling my bike, dismounts, getting back on the bike I feel great, just don't have the endurance to hang with the mid and top riders in the B's.

I like to watch the C race when I get there early. This week my buddy's son was racing again. He is 8 and rocks a 26" wheeled singlespeed MTB! :) A couple guys on a tandem actually won the C race!

In the B's there were 60-70 racers plus another 30 or so 35+ Masters men! We were doing 6 laps, about 1.5 miles each with one BIG run up (...walk up, lol) the rest was pretty flat. It got really crowed for the first half a lap until everyone strung out on the course. I was feeling much better this week after having some time to get used to my new bike. I know I am not going to beat a bunch of people but I want to be competitive, and not get lapped by half the field :) All was going well and I was hanging with another guy in my class at the back and was just about to try and drop him on the road section when it felt like I clipped out. But I didn't, my pedal spindle broke and my Crank Bros. Pedal slid off still attached to my shoe. I have heard they are good with customer service so I am not worried but it sucked being one lap from finishing...not DFL for once!

In the A race to mix things up they put out some cans with $$$ taped to them and gave the riders an option to take a longer route and snatch up some cash or stay on the race course. It was fun but most of the top riders chose to duke it out rather than go for the dough.

Another great race by Rick from Kisscross and this week the Bissell Pro Cycling Team! If you are anywhere near the Grand Rapids Michigan area and can make it for a Kisscross race check it out!
