Hey all.
So, this weekend kicks off my first attempt at a competitive season. I'm still in school, so making the decision to race competitively has been pretty big for me. Awesomely, my wife is in the same position as me - first competitive season. I love that we can do this together. Needless to say, we're excited... but I'm afraid the excitement may be hard to control come race-day.
Anyone more experienced have any psychological tips for keeping the nerves down on race day?

Drinking helps...but seriously, just remind yourself that you're doing something that should be fun. If you feel your heart racing on the start line, try to tune out the random ramblings and worries about psi decisions going on around you and instead listen to what your body is doing. Focus on your breathing and consciously try to slow it down to lower your heart rate. Trust that what ever skills and fitness you have will help you survive the day, and when the gun sounds, just clip in and go. If you're mid-race and hating life, just try smiling...works most of the time, some of the time.
Do NOT listen to Slayer. Trust me.
All kidding aside, just have fun. I have only done seven races since starting last year. I still get butterflies leading up to the start. Once the gun goes off, it all goes away. The more you do it, the less nervous you will be. Just race and have fun!
