Any input for best Shimano shoes for Cross. I ride in So Cal so no need for protection for hard core elements. I know the higher end shoes have carbon soles. Good or Bad idea for running? Any input is apprieciated.

Got the M300's that run good and have good traction on bottom. Only downfall is a little heavy compared to my old Pearl Izumi's. Also occasionaly get dirt in shoe.

I felt like my Sidi's flexed too much (non-carbon), tried the Shimano shoes and too stiff, comprimised my running on anything but flat. Now have Specialized with carbon right under the ball of the foot. Just the right mix of stiffness and flex. Highly recommend.

Thanks. I will hold on to the old Pearl Izumi's for now.

I Used the shimano ones two years ago found them too stiff for Cross "too slippery to stand on " had to Glue some rubber on the bottom. I am now using the Specailized one find them good all round

Running is not an issue. I have the M300's and the only problem I have is the midsection of the carbon sole is too slippery to stand on if you are unclipping the left leg first and resting on the peddle before the dismount. I think the sole on the 310's is the same. I had to epoxy on a rubber section.

You can also check out the 230s. The 310s are like the XTR of shoes - the 230s are like the XT/Ultegra. Still do the job, but save a bunch. I'm going to rock the 230s for this season.

Thanks for that. I thought there would be more suggestions from other Crosser's. I will check out the M310's

Carbon soles are allways good, nice and steady, when you are riding the track, but, as you point out, when you are running they are quiet stiff.
I use shimano SH-M310, carbon sole, they do the job, quiet well, they are a bit torn at the bottom, i used them last season, and planned to extend that to this season aswell.....
hope this helps a bit:-)
